Debate Club

Mission Statement

Crestwood’s Debate Club gives students the opportunity to take part in the conversation about real-world issues, as well as controversial ones. We work to give students the chance to build up skills in speech and debate.

Purpose

Crestwood’s Debate Club gives students the opportunity to take part in the conversation about real-world issues, as well as controversial ones. We work to give students the chance to build up skills in speech and debate.

Debate club started in the school year 2019-2020 with only 28 members. Now, it is a successfully running club with over 70 members! We are joining the Wayne-Oakland Debate League this school year!

The benefits of debate club

  • We will help you find your voice

  • It will improve your public speaking skills

  • It looks great on your college resume

How debates work

  • Teams will gather evidence to defend their argument in breakout rooms (for the first meeting of the month)

  • Evidence will be put on slides

  • The overall debate, (taking place during the second meeting of the month), will include both teams presenting their evidence followed by three overall rounds of debate. After each round, a professional instructor will be present to choose a winner.
