Introduction
The Crestwood Child Care Center has three main objectives. Our first objective is to enhance the total development of the children in our program. We will provide young children with opportunities to develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. We will encourage this development by providing a variety of learning activities. Through our activities we are meeting the State of Michigan’s Early Childhood Standards.
Materials in the program will be safe and age appropriate for the children. Through the use of learning centers, the child will be able to choose activities in art, math, science, social studies, large motor, small motor, dramatic play, music, language arts, play tables and technology. Our center is equipped with laptops, desktop computers, and iPads. During creative playtime, the children will move from area to area. Children will develop initiative and self-direction as they acquire information about the world around them, both through self-discovery and teacher guidance. Our Crestwood Child Care Center uses Teaching Strategies Gold and Creative Curriculum. We use the Handwriting without Tears alphabet and printing program.
The Center’s second objective is to provide students in Crestwood High School’s Principles of Early Childhood Education classes experience in observing and participating with preschool children. Students are given opportunities to gain insight into human development and to gain experience in planning and assisting with activities of young children. The students will also become aware of the responsibilities and privilege of one’s future role as a parent, and to develop skills and attitudes necessary to prepare them for a career in early childhood, elementary or secondary education.
The Center’s third objective is for the parents and community to gain a better understanding of the child’s total development, to gain awareness of the special needs of children, and to contribute to the wholesome growth and development of the future citizens of the community.

EMERGENCY DRILLS
Throughout the school year, Crestwood High School will be conducting Lockdowns, Lock-In Drills, Fire, Tornado, and School Evacuation Drills. We do not know when these drills will occur. The Crestwood School District is being pro-active in being prepared for an emergency. Your child’s safety is our number one priority. The State of Michigan requires each school district to practice each of these drills. During a Lockdown Drill no one is allowed to enter or leave our buildings. If this drill occurs during a preschool session you cannot pick up your child until the drill has been completed. Do not panic! Your child will be safe in our Crestwood Child Care Center. During a Lock-In Drill you may report to the main office at Crestwood High School and we will release your child to you.
In the event of a School Evacuation the entire school will take school buses or walk to our safe site. Once we arrive you will be notified immediately and you will be able to pick up your child at the safe site. The high school students as well as the teacher and the para-pro will accompany the children.
