Crestwood Spotlight! Bio students are learning about fires burning across the arctic that can continue through the cold winters. We decided to investigate the flow of energy and matter when fuels burn and collected evidence that arctic peat soils contain a great deal of carbon.

These fires have been called Zombie Fires as they seem to die out and reappear in the same place. We decided to investigate the flow of energy and matter when fuels burn and collected evidence that arctic peat soils contain a great deal of carbon. We found that the carbon is released into the atmosphere during these fire events.
