Jazz club is a group of musicians grades 6-8 who meet once a week to rehearse. We play many different styles of music within the broad jazz idiom, and perform at several school and community events. This group is intended for those who already understand how to read music and are competent on their instrument. Students do not have to be members of the school music program to participate in this ensemble.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS honors those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its founding in 1929. Riverside’s NJHS members are held to a high standard of conduct in school, sports, and their community. It is expected that NJHS members constantly strive to be positive role models both at school and within the community at large. Seventh grade students may apply for membership in Riverside’s NJHS chapter during the last trimester of the school year. Qualified candidates will be considered based on their GPA (3.8 or higher) and a proven record of community service, leadership, citizenship, and character. Members will serve during their eighth grade year.

5th - 8th graders will audition to share their talents with the student body. Singers, dancers, magicians, gymnasts, musicians, and many more will have the opportunity to share their amazing skills.
WEB is part of a national program that helps to ease the transition for students entering the middle school, in our case 5th graders, by giving them 8th grade leaders to bond with so that they feel comfortable to go to them for help or advice, or just to know someone cares.
8th grade WEB Leaders and other students from other grades complete our WEB Advisory. All of these students help to run: the recycling program; the fundraising programs to benefit those in need, including two canned food drives; the allocation committee, which decides how much we can help whom; and the recognition committee, that chooses the staff, student, and parent volunteer of the month from the list of suggestions made by the school community. Most of the WEB Advisory meetings take place during 6th hour on Wed. and Fri.
Some 8th grade WEB Leaders go into 5th grade classrooms to teach academic based lessons about areas of concern for the 5th graders and their teachers, like "teamwork." These academic WEB leaders are trained after school and teach during 2nd hour on the dates chosen by the 5th grade teachers.
